The opening two minutes did most of the day's work

Apple came out of the gate against a heavy gap-down tape and gave our desk its cleanest work of the morning — a short into the opening spike, scaled out in pieces, then two long re-entries built the same way, half on, add on the pullback, out in thirds. Meta was the slower fight: a first long stopped for the session's only loss, then a re-entry at a better level that scaled out through several targets before the runner came back to a break-even stop. The morning's honest regret on the desk was sizing, not selection.

The 1h 09m session is on the other side of this.

Everything above is the write-up. This is the morning itself, with the names on every call and the room talking through it.

The pre-market read was defensive — twenty-five gap-downs to two gap-ups, a resistance level on the index and no support worth naming underneath it. The stated bias was short-the-pop. What actually paid was recognising within the first two minutes that Apple, fresh off its event, was not going to behave like the rest of the list, and switching to long-only in that one name while staying cautious everywhere else.

“You start to get addicted to the rush of the entries, and it's a huge huge slippery slippery slope.”

Why chasing the rush of every entry is a slippery slope — and why patience wins the record.

The mechanics on those Apple longs are the part worth studying. Half size on, a stated add level below, a stated first target a point away — and when the add never filled, the position was taken off at target rather than held for the version of the trade that was planned but never assembled. The published short level in the same name was stopped by a small margin and then went straight to where it was meant to go; it stayed stopped. That is the trade-off of a hard stop and it was paid without argument.

Meta was where the session spent most of its talk. The first long was entered into a range and stopped almost immediately, with slippage, for the only loss on the board. The re-entry was structured better: a starter, an add filled lower, an average brought down, then scale-outs at successive targets with the stop moved to break-even once the first piece was off. The last runner came back and stopped flat. That is a re-entry working as designed, and the only thing said about the loser afterwards was that the stop was respected.

Net points are per share. Apply your own size to get your own number: at 1,000 shares, 1.79 points is $1,790.00. At 100 shares it is $179.00. At one share it is $1.79. The desk publishes the move, not a dollar result, because the dollars depend entirely on how you size, and that is your decision rather than ours.
