A tape that never gave a reason to commit

Levels were marked across telecom, semis and the large-cap names, orders were staged at them, and almost none of those orders were allowed to fill. With a mid-morning sentiment release on the calendar and volume thin into it, our desk's working thesis became staying flat rather than manufacturing a trade.

The trade log for this session is not up yet. The figures and the trade-by-trade table appear here once the desk's results sheet is updated for Friday, October 9, 2026. The video is the whole session either way.

The 1h 06m session is on the other side of this.

Everything above is the write-up. This is the morning itself, with the names on every call and the room talking through it.

The morning had a story handed to it before the open: a carrier announcement that put T, VZ and ASTS under real pressure. The desk still did not chase it. The telecom read was flagged as caution rather than opportunity, and the only expression considered was an alert to short a pop, not a market order into a gap that had already moved. That restraint set the tone for everything after.

Where orders did go in, they were worked and then pulled. A long was staged in NVDA at a marked level and cancelled when the price action around it stopped supporting the idea. A gap-close long in MU was taken and abandoned quickly once the fill did not behave, and the same name was then reconsidered from the short side on a breakdown retest rather than defended as a long. An INTC long was defined precisely (a specific level with a thirty-cent stop, backed by resistance history going back several months), missed its entry by a small margin, and was cancelled outright ahead of the economic number rather than loosened to catch it. AMZN and GOOG orders sat at pre-marked levels off the 50-day and were never forced into. HOOD registered as a valid long on the helper script and was still reserved for a VWAP test that did not arrive.

By the mid-morning release the stated plan was hands off the keyboard, and after it nothing improved: INTC could not reach VWAP, SMCI stalled on its daily breakdown, and a late GME daily breakout was looked at and left alone. The session closed with the desk openly asking whether a trade would present at all and answering no. Boredom was named explicitly as a sign the process was working, not a problem to solve.
