← Options Glossary A type of equity, common stock is a class of ownership in a company. Common stock gives shareholders the right to elect the board of directors, to vote on company policies, and to share in company profits. In the event of liquidation, common stockholders have rights to a company’s assets after bondholders, prefered shareholders, and other debtholders have been paid in full.
