Dividend

A dividend is a payment made by a company to its shareholders, typically as a distribution of profits. Dividends are set by a company’s Board of Directors, and may be issued as cash, stock, or other property. A dividend is allocated as a fixed amount per share, with shareholders receiving a proportionate amount of their ownership in the company. Companies often pay dividends on a fixed schedule (quarterly, bi-annually, annually), but may declare a dividend at any time. Unscheduled dividends are often called Special Dividends.
